We were fortunate to have met at a very young age and spent over 50 years together raising our family of four. Bob was one in a million and I was the lucky one to marry him. We did have a great life together even though there were ups and downs. We did weather them, fortunately, and came to be able to spend some of our "golden years" doing some of the things we had planned earlier in life. We were able to travel often to visit our children and grandchildren. I can remember his 77th birthday so well. Ruth Anne and I had shopped for groceries in Myrtle Beach. She wanted to get something for his birthday, so she selected a chocolate cake with chocolate icing (his favorite) and picked up two candles, both with the number 7 on them. She said she would be able to use them one day when the girls got that old. When Ruth Anne and David went out for the evening, I took a picture of Bob with his cake (more than half eaten, so I turned it around to look "new") lit the two 7's and got down low enough as to not show the cake so well eaten. Of course, there was chocolate ice cream to go with the cake, so Bob was in his glory. We had been on the beach that day and I took some pictures of him. How he loved the ocean. I walked the beach again last week and thought many thoughts of the man in my life. How I miss him!! He was a good man, wonderful husband and devoted father. Rest is peace, my love.

Surprise!!!

Seems so long ago that I wrote a blog!! I just had to write about this, however. In February I was invited to a surprise 75th birthday party for my sister in the Phila. area. It took only a few days for me to decide that I MUST go. It has been almost two years since I saw any of my siblings and their families. The party was to be at the Concordville Inn, a place of historic interest in the area. I made my plans--called brother to see if I could stay with his family for a couple nights. Of course, he said they would be pleased to have a visitor. Made plane arrangements and things were set in motion. The party-giver requested that when we replied, we should select one of three entrees on the menu. That was the easy part. My niece sent me an e-mail saying that WOW, would Mom be very, very surprised!!. Indeed, she was.
The night of the party, she was brought to the Inn by her son, and only when they did not get seated in the main dining room, did she think something was awry. She was ushered into a private dining room where we (about 50 of us) were waiting to yell "Surprise!" She was floored, needless to say. She meandered around the room and bumped into me. She asked who I was. (Her vision is poor temporarily due to recent cataract surgery.) When I said that I was her sister, she really was surprised. She had no idea about any of this and my coming from so far away made that very special for her.

Among the guests were eight of her former co-workers, including her boss, a brother, two sisters, three children, two grandchildren, several nieces with their spouses, her daughter's in-laws, some close neighbors, a sister-in-law and her husband and daughter and some other close friends of her son.

All in all it was such a nice party from beginning to end. The food was excellent and everything was elegant. Lots of pictures were taken with the disposable cameras on each table, plus those who brought their own.

I am certain it will be a long time before my sister forgets her 75th birthday.

Back to the cold

It has been quite a while since I have written anything in my blog. Lots has happened since the last entry.
Christmas was just wonderful. Peggy and I attended Mass, then we came home and she made breakfast. A delicous omelet!!! Off to the movies to catch the early show. Saw "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" which was very good. Came back home to get dinner ready while Peggy took care of her animals. Steak dinner was super.
Day after Christmas, Mary, Scott, Stef, Jake, and Stef's friend Tom joined Peggy and I for a turkey dinner and gift opening. Aterwards, we played cards until time to retire. (The thing I like best about a turkey dinner is the leftovers!!!)
Lots of football games to watch during the ensuing weeks then I got ready for my trip to California to visit Paul, Nicki and Kate. That was great!! Kate has grown up so much in the last six months. She speaks much more clearly and has learned how to play a few games. Her "fishing rod" game helps her learn her lower case letter and she could even say the words they spelled!!!!. Her "Memory" game showed us both a thing or two about paying attention. Reminded me of the TV show "Concentration" Make a match and take the pair off the board. We played with 36 cards, and she amazed me with her powers of memory. Almost skunked me twice by the time I came home.
When we went to the airport, Kate said she did not want me to go home. "Stay, Grandma" is all she said. I told her that I would be back sometime later. I do hope that placated her.
Now I am back in the cold weather of Wisconsin. Fortunately I did not return to two feet of snow in my driveway. It had only snowed once or twice, in small amounts, while I was away. Weather is supposed to be more mild this weekend, so I am hoping to get my new car washed. I need to remove the salt stains.
Back to work tomorrow. Mary is certainly glad I came back. Let's see how much I can accomplish in a day at the office.
More later.

Thanksgiving 2008

Tomorrow is a day set aside by US residents to give thanks to the Almighty for all his graces and blessings. He certainly has given us much for which we must thank Him.
I just returned from the Ecumenical Service at Faith L. C. which consisted of a Vesper Service and many thanks were sung about, rung (bell choir) and read about. Sandy participated in robes as did Fr. Bruce and Pastor Bob. Well attended and we were requested to bring food for the Pantry. I was amazed at the quantity of food that was donated. Money donations were assigned to the Ecumenical Ministry of Columbus and Fall River. All the plates looked full of bills, not just ones.!! It was a real pouring out of gratitude for all we have and can share with those less fortunate.

I plan to be with Mary and family for dinner, after I attend Mass and bake pies and casserole for the dinner. I certainly am looking forward to a wonderful family gathering. Let's hope my pie baking is still in good form.

The "new" car is a pleasure to drive. Today something happened and I don't know what I did, but the alarm went off as I exited the vehicle. I looked at the car, then looked at the keypad and finally locked the doors. That stopped the alarm. All I had to do was hit the panic button again. I'll learn more about this car every day.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving Day, everyone. It is great to be alive.

New car

Today I parted company with the 96 Olds and became the proud owner of an 04 Honda!!!!!
I only drove the Olds for 12 years, but it was a good car and gave us (Dad and I) good service all those years. I just hope the person who bought it has many miles of safe and happy driving. Tomorrow I will work on putting on the vanity plates which I transferred from the old car. Dad would be so happy to see all this happening.

Had a busy week, mostly doing volunteer work. Hospital Volunteers had their annual dinner on Monday night at the Capri. Well attended and a delicious meal. Short meeting, which I did not mind, and installation of new officers.

Tuesday was bowling night. We won 5 of 7 points and moved ahead of our opponents by doing so. One good game and two mediocre ones.

Wednesday was volunteer day at the Care Center. Fr. Bruce was not there to say Mass, so we had Rosary and Communion, which I had the privilege of leading. Fr. had to attend the funeral at O'Connor Center for one of the diocesan priests. RIP

Thursday is usual shopping day. After that my day was spent finishing up the project for Sugar Plum Fair (6 jewelry bags) and shortening 3 pair of trousers for a client of mine. Enjoyed the Graffe String Quartet concert in Watertown Thursday night with Marlo and Lois. (Part of the Community Concert Series--bonus concert in another city which honors our Beaver Dam membership)

Today was non-stop everything. Haircut, volunteer work at Hospital, travel to BD to transfer car ownerships, volunteer work at Care Center, and a dinner at the home of Donna, who took care of Dad when I needed to get out to bowling or bridge or lunch. Donna has been under the weather all summer, and I just learned about it on Monday night. I called to make arrangements, so I picked up fish dinner at Culver's and took it to her home. We had a great gabfest catching up. Usually we meet at the Capri, but since she is weak and uses as walker, I thought taking a meal to her would be best. It was. We both had a good time.

Now I am at it again. No comments on my last posting so I wonder if anyone is reading my posts. If not, I suppose it will just go down as another entry into my diary of life.

TTFN.

Home again - Vacation over for now

Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to blogging. Have been away for more than a month just taking things easy and relaxing in NC and SC. Had a great time with the three little redheads in NC. They have grown quite a bit since my visit in the Spring. I know they did not want me to leave, but I told them I would come back sometime soon again.

The weather in WI has been absolutely beautiful the past two weeks, except for a day of rain which we really needed. The trees are showing their beauty. Took a couple pictures today to finish off my roll of film. Also found that Sharrows can now make prints from my digital card. I have a few that I want to copy for friends.

Our Church is having its big money maker in a couple weeks. I have offered to make some jewelry bags (you have one, Ruth Anne) and the chairperson liked that idea since they are planning to have some jewelry there. Today I cut out and got started on three of them. I will get more material in BD on my next visit. These are red satin with white drawstrings. Sharp.

Bowling again, now that I am back from vacation. Did a fair job on Tuesday, my first night since April. Three games 145, 146, 149. Last season I ended up with a 149 average for the year. I guess I still have the knack. Tomorrow I plan to bowl in the Senior Tournament in Oshkosh. Six games--doubles and singles only. Usually a fun day with the "older gals" Must be 50 to enter. I qualify in that regard.

Will not bore you with any more details tonight. Good to get back to this. Will try to be more regular with my blogging.

Ta Ta for now.
ASG

JULY BLOG CONTINUED

What did she do???

Let's try this again -

Phew -

I found that drated "DRAFT."

What has happened to my last two posts? I have taken walks around town just to gaze at the blossoming trees. They have never been so lovely in my memory. I think the winter snow helped make the trees as beautiful as ever. The limbs were heavily laden with pink, white, and lavender blossoms. The lilacs have a special deep color this year. The redbud trees will soon lose their flowers and sprout leaves. Ah, what a lovely season to be here.

I had a call tonight from my contractor. He plans to be here early in the morning to start on the work we discussed last year. I have asked him to tuck point all the foundation and replace any window sills that need it (cellar windows). When he is finished that, he will fix the walkway between the house and garage. It sank an inch or so over the winter. I want him to replace the ceiling in the office (Paul's bedroom) when he has a rainy day and needs work. The roofer was going to do it, but will pay to have it done by whomever I choose. Mark does very nice work. He fixed the front porch last year while I was away.

June is creeping upon us and I am looking forward to a visit West. Haven't seen little Kate since the beginning of the year and I can just imagine how much she has grown, both in stature and vocabulary.

Memorial Day will be celebrated on Monday. Let us never forget the deeds of those who did so much to keep us free.

Memorable Day - April 30, 1954

Last evening my oldest daughter called and asked me if this day was special. I told her that it was the day Dad and I met fifty-four years ago. I was an employee of the Philadelphia Electric Company which had a meeting every month in the city. Usually the meeting happened on a Tuesday night but this time it was special because Sammy Kaye was going to be there to play for a dance after the meeting. My frieds left the meeting and proceeded to the bar in the Broadwood Hotel, where the meeting was held. We went there to wait for the ballroom floor to be cleared of the chairs and set up for dancing. None of us ever got there, however. While the bar was full of PE employees, some others crept into our midst because they saw all these "cute chicks" as I was told. They went from one to the next, talking to them and generally having a social visit. When most of the crowd left to go dancing, we stayed at the bar, visiting each other. Two young men sat down on the empty stools beside us, and we started chatting. Time passed and we never did go dancing, and it was time to leave for home. Ann Kertis was the driver, so I left with her. In the course of the conversation, I did tell one of the young men, Bob, what my name was and that I lived in Sharon Hill. You can imagine my surprise the following week when I received a call from him. He had looked up all the people with my last name, calling one after the other until he reached my Uncle Walter who told him the number to call to reach me. He did, we talked, made a date, and went dancing that Friday night. He was such a nice fellow that I invited him to escort me to the Country Club dance the following Friday. That was at McCall Field, the company's country club for employees. We did have a nice time, so Bob asked me to be his guest at his fraternity picnic the very next day - May 15th. We went to New Brunswick for that picnic and met his fraternity brothers and their dates. It was a lovely Spring day and we had a great time. While we were there, Bob asked me to marry him. He pinned me when I agreed. That was the start of our wonderful life together. We married a year later in September, and in 2005, we had a great family celebration for our 50th anniversary. All four children were able to attend and it was so very special. Lots of pictures to commemorate that big day for us.

April 7, 2008 - Spring is almost here!!!!

Two months since my last blog. For shame!!

Just back from a lovely visit to NC and the grandchildren there. Ruth Anne and Dave took me to Myrtle Beach with them. Weather was not the nicest, but we managed to have a very nice, relaxing time. I arrived home last Thursday, my luggage on Friday.
Not too often has this happened to me, but there was no harm in the delay.

Lots of messages to take care of (19) on the phone. Nicki and Paul invited me to CA anytime I can make it. I am looking at some time in June, after the bowling season is over. Still have to get in a couple bridge sessions before the end of June, too.
One is coming up next week. Since some of the bridge players are also golfers, I must line them up before the golfing starts. They golf on Thursdays which are my days unencumbered with volunteer activities.

My new bed, mattress, etc. arrived in Feb. and I have been enjoying the most comfortable nights spent therein. When Peggy comes over the next time, I will post a picture of this acquisition. I love it.

Late night tonight watching basketball game. Lots of excitement. Game went to OT.
Kansas won. Tomorrow night the women have their final game. Stanford - Tennessee.

Sign off and go to bed, Anne. You have lots of work to do at the office tomorrow.
Ta ta for now.

Snow, snow, and more snow

We have been witnessing one of the worst winter storms in many years. I think the last worst one was 1978-79 winter when we had just a little more snow than we do now.

Wednesday, the 6th, was one of those days when you should have just put another log on the fire and sat down with a long drink of brandy. We ended up with more than a foot of snow in the 24 hour period. It began on Tuesday night, but not bad enough to cancel bowling, as it had the previous Tuesday. Wednesday I made it to the Care Center to help set up the altar for Mass. It was Ash Wednesday, so all the residents had crosses on their foreheads when I left. I came home, shut the garage door and felt that I was in for the duration. I called off my afternoon volunteering at Bingo and just stayed warm and snug. The man doing my shoveling and plowing has been here so often, I think he lives here. After the snow stopped around 6 PM, the air was clear and very bright. The plow came by to do my driveway and walks about 10 PM so that I would be able to get out in the morning.

Thursday was a beautiful, sun shiny day, and the sun did lots of good work melting some of the precipitation. (I can see the concrete on my driveway now.) Grocery shopping is a usual trip on Thursday morning with my friend who does not drive, and we were both substituted in a bridge club that afternoon. I had good cards and enjoyed playing with the ladies. Since most of the Church services were called off on Ash Wednesday, the Ecumenical service was held on Thursday evening. I did not attend, as I had been to my own Church for that event.

My good friend's husband called me early today to ask me to stop in and cheer her up. I did and found she had had some procedure done the day before and was told to take it easy for a few days. She needed some things at the grocery store, so I did that errand for her. I will call her tomorrow to see if she is doing much better.

Tonight Marlo and I shared a fish dinner from Culver's. I picked it up and we ate at her home. I brought some wine, which we both enjoyed. She does not drive and has been housebound all week and feeling a little depressed. She enjoyed my visit as well as the fish.

Saturday I plan to attend the funeral of an elderly woman I visited at the Care Center and brought Communion to her when she was able to receive. She died last Saturday and was the aunt of Ruth G. I imagine there will not be too many there since this woman has only been in Columbus a short time and she was quite old. I will attend to comfort Ruth. Since my last post I spent three weeks in California visiting son Paul and his wife Nicki and little daughter Kate. We had a most delightful time!! Lots of celebrating was packed into those three weeks, including a side trip to Arizona to attend the wedding of grandniece Lindie. There was Christmas dinner on the 22nd in San Diego, Christmas dinner on Christmas in Huntington Beach, sitting while son and wife went to the movies at long last, Kate's second birthday (out to dinner that night), birthday party on the 30th so the children and parents could attend, New Year's Eve (son and wife went out with their friends while I took care of the sleeping Kate)Nicki's birthday on January 1st, drive to Arizona for four days, three nights for the wedding, home to California so I could pack to travel home on the 9th.
One more thing we celebrated was my birthday. It is always fun to be with family on my special day. Last year I was alone, but the year before I was in North Carolina with Ruth Anne and her lovely family. Signs and crepe paper greeted me as I came up from the guest room. I almost needed a vacation to recover from this vacation, but the trip home was most pleasant and ahead of time on both legs of the flight home.

YOu can imagine the stack of mail that greeted me when I returned. Peggy had nicely gathered it from the post office and sorted it into four piles. First class (mostly Christmas cards and birthday cards), other first class, second class and junk mail. I got through most of it in a day or two, except the last pile. That I did today, would you believe?

Beside picking up the mail, Peggy also watered my plants, took care of the bills I left to be paid (my checks, of course) and turned the heat up so I could come into a warm home. That was so nice!! One of my plants was in bloom for the first time in over a year. Thanks, Peggy.

I was glad to be away because "my man" doing the snow removal took care of the driveway and sidewalks eleven times in December. What a huge bill!!! Even so, it is better than getting my back out of whack again. Still seeing the chiropractor from the snow shoveling last February. So far in January since I have been home, he has been here four times. More snow is expected tonight. When will it ever end?

Daughter Mary was glad to see me so I could bring some of her office work up to date. Tomorrow I will pick up where I left off last Tuesday, if the snow is not too serious.

Between the Australian Open Tennis tournament and the playoff games, I have had a front row seat in front of the TV. Today, however, the Packers lost in overtime. I may watch the Super Bowl in two weeks, just to see if the Patriots can do the whole season and post season without a loss. I think they can.!! Seerena and Venus Williams are still holding their own in the tennis tournament, as is James Blake, the only surviving American male. He played a super match in five sets defeating Bahgdadis, after being down two sets and 4 games to 1. What a match!!!!

Next weekend, the bowling team will travel to Oshkosh to bowl in the State Tournament. I am hoping the weather is good for the hour drive. We always have a good time and usually lots of laughs.

Getting late and I must get up at a decent hour in the morning so I'll sign off for now.

Advent - Christmas Preparation

The time is nearing when we will celebrate Christmas and there is always much to do about the house in preparation. Today was no exception. I started out by making a batch of pumpkin bread (Bob's favorite recipe) after breakfast and enjoyed the aroma while I continued with the task of getting Christmas cards and letters ready for mailing. Peggy helped me with the letter and showed me how to prepare the labels for mailing. With this new computer, there are a few different things that I need to learn before I really become literate. Anyway, they are all ready for mailing when I leave for work in the morning. I also wrapped some gifts which I plan to take with me so that they will be where they need to be on Christmas. Mary will help deliver them. I still have one or two more little packages to get ready for mailing, but that will wait until tomorrow while I watch the football game.

I made lists of things I want to do and get done before I make tracks for California, so I still have two more batches of pumpkin bread to make. (I usually give a loaf to all my neighbors.) After these are finished, I can rest knowing I have done what I planned to do and sleep tight. It is a great feeling to know I can still work all day and get things done. I was beginning to feel that I was slowing down quite a bit.

Have a very blessed Christmas and a peaceful New Year.

Thanksgiving 2007

What a wonderful day!! Many things to be thankful for, the main one being good health. Started the day off reading the Epistle at the 8 AM Mass. It was well attended, for not HAVING to attend!!! Home to a breakfast making toast on my new B & D toaster. (Old one went POOF!) Made the dressing for dinner and got the rest of my things together to take to Mary and Scott's for a 1 PM dinner. Three pies, which I made last night, stuffing, olives for Stefanie, and some fudge that I made especially for a treat for Mary. Three trips to the car and I was ready to travel to BD. Scott helped me unload. Did I tell you that we had our first snow yesterday? Only an inch here but it was enough to cause people to try to remember how to drive with the white stuff flying. During the night, the wet snow froze and my driveway was sheer ice. I walked as if I were on eggs!!!.
All Scott's family were there except Jeff's wife, Mary, who had to work at the hospital. Mary invited Peggy and me to join in the festivities. Lots of good food but I did not go back for seconds. I did make a plate to take home, however, which will taste mighty good tomorrow. The pies were well eaten, but I had some mincemeat pie left to bring home. I know a couple people who like that, so I will see that they get a piece so I won't eat it all.
We had the Packer game on MUTE during dinner and afterwards. They beat the Lions 37-26. Exciting for the Packers. They are now 10-1. Could they possibly continue this throughout the season???!!! What a nice thought!!
After a very nice visit and dinner with family and friends, I thought I wanted to get home before dark. I did, just. The sun goes down this time of year about 4:30 and that is when I arrived home safely.
It was another wonderful day, D.G. Something else to put on my list of Thank You to God.
Hope eveyone had such a pleasant day.
Bookie

Beautiful Fall - November 3, 2007

The weather has been lovely the past week. Rather nice to see the leaves turning to reds and golds before they dance down on to the lawn. The new roof is on, but the trim will be put on next week. After that, the ceiling in Paul's bedroom will be replastered, as part of the slanted wall came down after the rain penetrated the tarp covering the house before the shingles were put on. Such is life!!!! Now that I have started, I will continue to clean out that room. Dad's office is still just as it was when he retired just before his stroke. Too many things were let go while I cared for him during his last years.

Went shopping today to take advantage of special sale at Hallmark Store in Beaver Dam. Took Marlo G. and we had a nice lunch at Applebee's prior to shopping. Now I will get all that wrapped and mailed before my next trip. On the way home, we took a quick turn and went to visit Mary Hickey in her new apartment. She was delighted to have visitors. Their new place overlooks Beaver Dam Lake and I am sure it will be a cold place being on the windy side of the building and East side of the lake.
After a year in Hillside Manor, she is so happy to be HOME again.

Bridge marathon date set for Monday, so the boss said I could take the afternoon off. Our opponents are two men who seem to have been lost when the men's marathon disbanded. They asked if they could play in the women's marathon and we said they could. Mr. Fritchen and Mr. Purvis are quite a pair and usually have great cards. We shall see how they make out this time around.

Last Tuesday I bowled with my new ball which is two pounds lighter than the old one. I have been feeling so tired that I knew it was time to bowl with a lighter ball. I did okay for the first time and I wasn't as tired when I got home. I just hope I can pick up my scores and maintain my average, which is about 150 generally.

Don't forget to set your clocks back one hour tonight before you go to bed, that is, unless you want to stay up until 2 AM and then do it. lol.

Mom

Vacation time again--October 25, 2007

I didn't realize it had been so long since my last entry. Sorry about that. I will try to do better, now that I am at home for a spell.

Just returned from a two week vacation and visit with daughter and family in North Carolina and traveled with them to Myrtle Beach for a week. It was really a wonderful time. The weather was delightful. Even the rain didn't last long one afternoon. Trips to the beach and the pool were daily events and my walks on the beach were very relaxing. Son and family joined us from California for a few days. It was interesting seeing how the cousins reacted with one another and how well they got along. One five year old, two four year olds and an almost two year old played so nicely all week. Loved seeing how Kate danced to the music her parents brought to play on the CD player for her.

Vacations all must come to an end, all too soon. I flew home yesterday and was met by oldest daughter. We went out to dinner and they fed us so well, we have enough for another meal. Those bloomin onions are really spicey!!!!

The roof is nearly finished. Still have to put on the finishing touches and roof the front porch. NOw that they are nearly done, I have to note that the white trim will need to be painted as the next project. Always something to do in these over 100 year old homes.

I have put off calling another contractor while the roofers were in full swing, but I will be putting in a call to one to see about having the foundation mortar repaired. Some places it has really come loose and needs repointing.

You may think all I do is vacation. Is that so bad?? I have rather enjoyed being able to visit the children and their children at various times of the year. Looking forward to my next trip which will be over the holidays. Until then, I have LOTS to do here so I will get busy quickly.

Back Home again - Sept. 10, 2007

It has been a while, hasn't it? Travel has taken me to Manistique for a quick trip and then to NC for three weeks. The girls, Annie and Mary Jo, turned four while I was with them and their mother put on quite a nice little party for them, her two little princesses. They called yesterday wanting to know where Grandma was. She did not come up each morning for breakfast, as they had gotten used to while I was visiting. It was a restful time for me as it was ever so hot to venture outdoors during the day. DG for the AC at Ruth Anne and David's home. The children were even happy to stay indoors with me. We had a great time.

Listed some projects that I want to accomplish in this time at home. I did the first--defrosted the freezer so I can part company with it in the near future. It will be picked up on Sept. 27, if all goes according to schedule.

The major project was to go through 3 weeks worth of mail when I got home. Most of it went into the circular file, but I still had to go through it all anyway.

Bowling started last week and I missed the opening night. Plan to be there this week, though. I just hope I can hold up my end of the team.

Attended a 50th Anniversary open house yesterday for Dorothy and Floyd Hasey. There must have been over 200 people there in the hour I was there, and they were still in line to greet the couple and more coming in as I left. Their three sons were there and visited with Jim and Ryan. Tim was off at the other end of the room. The party was held at Bobby G's. the place where I bowl, and it also has a banquet room. Very nice buffet was open for all to enjoy. Saw many neighbors there. When you live all your life in one community, you do get to know lots of people. Dorothy also is an organist for three churches in this area, so there were many friends from this group. Floyd farmed on the family farm for many years. Bob called on him when he was associated with Tracy Farms and Agro-Culture Liquid Fertilizers. Had a good time.

Ta Ta for now.

Anne

A Memorable trip

Last Friday, Peggy took me to Manistique, MI to visit the gravesite of Bob. It has been 13 months since he died and I had wanted to get there before the weather got bad and could not travel. We had beautiful weather and the heat did not bother us since the air conditioner was working very well. Stopped for lunch then went on to Iron MOuntain to tour the Dickinson Homes Village (5 homes on site). They are really so nice and well planned. Of course, changes can be made as you wish. They are very flexible. From there, on to Manistique (lost an hour on the way), checked in and then went for some pizza. Visited with Mrs. Hoholik and daughter, Molly, who lives in Milwaukee where she taught kindergarten. She told us she was inspired by Grace Gero, who was Bob's aunt. Saw them again on Saturday morning after a big breakfast at Sunny Shores, where Bob and I had many meals on our annual treks. The place is on Route 2 east of Manistique and quite close to Lake MIchigan.
The trip to the cemetery was quiet. I pulled some weeds that were near the gravemarker and made certain everything was the way it was supposed to be. A flag was flying from the upper corner to identify a veteran. All in all, it was a good visit. We left and drove around town a bit before leaving for Wisconsin. Came home a different way--along the Lake--and it was lovely. Lunched in Appleton and continued on home. It started to rain at that time, and it was such a good rain. We needed it!!!! Lawns were beginning to look so brown. I looked at the gauge when I got up on Sunday and there were 2 1/2 inches in it. Thank heaven for that rain.
Peggy was to return the rental car today on her way to work, so that should complete the trip. It was good to spend so much time with her.

Busy Summer - July 17, 2007

For a person who has seen only a handful of movies in the past ten years, I have had a run on movies lately. I am not the critic that Ruth Anne and Peggy are, but I know when I like a movie and when I do not. Did enjoy and had some good laughs at "Evan Almighty" along with Peggy. The Robin Williams picture, "License to Wed" was rather cute and hilarious in parts. If the language in "Knocked Up" had been cleaned up quite a bit, that would have been a true to life movie. There were some spicey lines, and I do enjoy the female star , Heidi, from the TV, ER.

I was treated to a gift certificate to The Fireside Theatre in Fort Atkinson last Christmas by Mary and Scott. They also gave one to his mother, so we joined together and saw "The Odd Couple" on stage after a delicious luncheon . I can still see Jack Klugman and Tony Randall as they played those parts previously. What a hoot!!! The fellows did a super job and their facial expressions were most hilarious, and spoke volumes. We had excellent seats in the third row and talked about going back again for a future show. Mostly, The Fireside has musicals, but this play was most enjoyable.

When the hot, humid weather descended on Columbus, I stopped almost everything that was not essential. Just took it easy and did "sitting" jobs. We are waiting for some much needed rain. It has been over a week since we had any moisture from above.

Looking forward to the wedding at the end of the month. Expect to see much of the family and spend some time with Ruth Anne and Paul.

Keep well everyone.

July 5, 2007

This has been a very difficult week for me to live through. So far, I have made it without any antidepressants, just calls and visits from the children and close friends. They have been my support group this past year. Mass at 5:30 at St. Patick's Church in Doylestown on July 3 was a peaceful time. Only 10 people there and Father gave a nice sermon about Abraham and Isaac and the sacrifice Abraham made.
July 4th, Mass at 8 AM for Independece celebration. Flag raising after Mass, then home to prepare for the annual picnic. Had done some baking on Tuesday, brownies and lemon bars, and hard boiled some eggs. Wednesday, I got out the table and chairs for the deck, as well as the Weber grill. I knew either Scott or Peggy would do the grilling while I took care of other things. Set things up, and was making the deviled eggs when Mary, Scott, Stef and Jacob arrived for the parade. They left with some cold drinks and an umbrella while I waited for Peggy to arrive. She did get here in just a few minutes, then we walked up for the parade. I only stayed for an hour, then nature called me home. Not too long after that, Scott and Jake came back for the same reason. Mary, Stef and Peggy came when the parade was over.
We had our picnic on the deck. Scott had pulled out the awning and it was cool there.
Hadn't been used for over a year. I cannot handle it alone. Anyway, we had brats and buns, potato salad, deviled eggs, fruit salad and my famous beans with pineapple.
We all had our fill!! Peggy had brought some chicken breasts which Scott grilled. Stef preferred one of them and Peggy took the rest home so she could take to work for lunches. Worked out fine.
After picnic, we had strawberry shortcake. The strawberries were from Kirchbaum's and they were extra sepcial this year. Too bad I did not get more while I was at it.
Two quarts was all I purchased. One quart is in the freezer!!!!
Mary, Scott, Jake and Stef left after we visited for a while. Peggy and I then left for the movie in Madison. We saw "License to Wed" with Robin Williams. It was such a laugh!!! Home from there and listened to the booms when it got dark. Did not walk to the park to watch the fireworks as I had had a very busy day.
Today, the 8:20 Mass was for Dad since it could not be said on the 3rd. There were a few good people there. Joan Link, who was also married the same day as Bob and I,just gave a a tight hug. She didn't have to say anything.
Tomorrow it is back to volunteering at the Care Center in the afternoon. Saturday, I will read at the afternoon Mass and be Eucharistic Minister. Marlo G. and I plan to go out to dinner after that.
It has been good to keep so busy because I have to keep my mind on what I am doing. IF I stop to think too much, I get sad and weepy, and that doesn't do me much good.
So, I know Bob is in a better place and I thank God he did not have to suffer long.
I miss him. Rest in Peace, Bob.

Home again

After two wonderful weeks in CA with son and his family, I came home on Wednesday. Flights were smooth and I slept most of the way back, knowing what I had to do when I arrived. After dinner out with Wanda and a trip to the grocery store, I spent the evening going through and taking care of ALL the first class mail that Peggy had sorted for me. Paid all the bills and then went to bed, exhausted. Since then, I have gotten back on the ususal schedule of volunteering, etc. and did work on Thursday to try to catch up my boss after my absence. Stayed until mid afternoon and took the rest of the work home. Got it all out in the mail on Friday AM.

There have been workmen in the area working on the sewers in our town. What a mess the streets near me are and the digging creates some unusual traffic patterns for me. I have to go three blocks west, two blocks north, then back the three blocks plus three more to get to the PO and bank. With gas as high as it is, I wish I could just walk, but that is even more trecherous with the deep trenches that have been dug for curbs and gutters. Hopefully, the job will be done soon in my vicinity, but the whole projsct is supposed to be completed by Nov. 1. Yeah!!!

I called the roofer tonight. He is working on one roof now, there is one leaking that is next, then comes my roof. Please pray for a long dry spell so that they can get this job done. I have been waiting since November for this!!! (I waited 9 months for each of the children, so this is lots shorter.)

Weather here is nice and warm, but there must have been quite a big blow in my absence. A tree in the back corner (near the lilacs and rhubarb) was toppled over to about a 45 degree angle. My neighbor and a friend of his have been working all weekend to get it down, so that the phone lines would not get disturbed. Only the main trunk remains to be sawed apart. The smaller branches are out at the curb in front of my neighbor's home. Such excitement!

Have caught up on sleep since coming home, so I can get back to work tomorrow.

Good night, all.
Mom

Sunny California

The weather was quite nice in Wisconsin this spring, except for the abundant rain. Here I am now in sunny California visiting Paul, Nicki and Kate. Weather here is ideal for just basking, walking, doing little or nothing and enjoying every minute of it. Lots to do with an inquisitive 18 month old little girl around. She is such a sweetheart!!! Very cuddly and affectionate. I will hate to leave when the time comes, but I know that there is much to do when I return home.
Peggy has written that I should blog. What's with you, Peggy? Your last on was on the big birthday. Get with it, kiddo.
Now as far as Mary goes, she must be making up for her absent office worker. Did she mail out those cards that were ready for June 1st? No blogs from her since State Track Meet. Hey, Mare, do it.
Know that I am having a wonderful visit with your brother and family. Paul dropped by for a few days while in the area to photograph a wedding. It was so good seeing him and being able to join him with his sisters for meals. Culver's was a special haunt for him. He does love their shakes!!!!

I missed the redbud trees blooming, and the lilacs, but did get to enjoy the blossoms in NC while there.

Found a few things I had misplaced and can now get them in the mail to Ruth Anne and David.

WE are all so proud of Stefanie and her track achievements. She qualified for the State Track Meet in the 300 hurdles yesterday!!! Way to go, Stef. That will be in LaCrosse in a week.
Lots of practice in the meantime, I suppose.

Time for bed. Tomorrow I fly to WI and my friend is planning to pick me up at the airport. I have some major things to get to when I return--mail, roof, porch repairs, etc. Then I need to start on the inside!!!!! That is the big task. If I ever get it done, it will be one large miracle.

There is another trip in the offing, to CA to visit family there. Looking forward to seeing my youngesst grandchild. It has been almost 6 months since I saw her last time. I imagine she has grown quite a bit and I am excited to see the changes in her. She is such a lovely little girl.

Back to work, also, maybe on Thursday afternoon for a start, then Monday and Tuesday as usual. Catching up after three weeks will take a while, but I am certain to get it all done before the next vacation.

TA TA for now.

May 4, 20007

I COULD NOT LET THIS DAY PASS WITHOUT telling about the wonderful birthday we celebrated last year at Myrtle Beach. Bob turned 77 , we walked on the beach, I took pictures of him, we had dinner, and he had his special chocolate cake with chocolate icing and two "7" candles. The cake was half eaten when I took pictures of him enjoing his favorite dessert, so I ducked down to show the uneaten part of the cake. We laughed about that picture many times and remembered what a wonderful time we had at the beach. I missed him there this year, but said some special prayers for him. He was such a wonderful person. I miss his terribly.

Vacation time

Much has happened since I last blogged. The league had its banquet on April 24th. OK meal at Bobby G's. Home early to be ready for early departure to airport for trip to NC to visit Ruth Anne and family. Flights were on time and uneventful. Dave was there waiting for me as I came down to collect my baggage. It is difficult to imagine how much the children have grown in the past six months. I know now that that is toooo long between trips to visit.

We had a delightful short trip to Myrtle Beach. Weather was ideal for walking on the beach and sunning. I did both, until I got too warm. Ruth Anne, Dave, and the children chose the indoor pool for most of their activities, and they were sole users most of the time. The girls frolicked with Ruth Anne and Dave, while Zeke swam around with his inner tube in the 3 1/2 foot deep pool. He learned he could stand on the bottom without too much trouble.

Back at the "cozy house" now and just relaxing. Have finally caught up on some much needed sleep. Did do some stitching for Church and now have gotten back to my counted cross stitch project (Christmas Stockings for Annie and Mary Jo) after a very long absence.

While I am here in NC, I expect that my front porch will be fixed. One corner needs to be bolstered up and a new floor will be put down. When I return, the new roof will be put on. After that, who knows?? One thing at a time.

All for now.
Mom/Bookie/Anne/Grandma Anne

PS - Fixed by the guru....*giggle*

Season is complete

When we finished bowling on Tuesday night, our team had won 5 of the 7 points awarded each night. We did a fair job this season, considering we were on new alleys with a different surface than we had been used to for years. Instead of hardwood, the new alleys have a laminate surface. It did take us all some time to get used to the way the ball reacted and how we released the ball. Anyway, we did not make the roll-offs which will be next Tuesday, but we did get finished not in the bottom spot. I managed to maintain a 151 average for all games bowled this season which is lower than a few years ago when I carried an average in the 160's. Guess that goes with age!! Banquet will be in two weeks, then I can travel!!!!!! Looking forward to seeing some of my grandchildren. It has been toooooo long since I could hug each of them.

Tomorrow I am scheduled to play in the bridge marathon. My partner and I have two rounds to play and then that will be completed. We have lost only one round. Not bad for amateurs who have not played together very long. Good cards, I suppose you would say.

The snow came and went this week. It was that heavy, wet snowfall that was very hard to shovel. My good neighbors came over to help me, so all I did was sweep off the porch and steps. They did the walk and driveway. How blessed I am to have such good neighbors.!!! The weatherman is predicting more for this weekend but I hope he is in error.

Easter was delightful!! I participated in the Easter Vigil Mass on Saturday and spent much of the day Easter with two daughters, sil, and two grandchildren. Mary prepared a delicious ham dinner and I made the dessert. Everyone seemed to enjoy that. Angel food cake with layers of pineapple, cool whip, and vanilla pudding between the layers. So easy to make and oh, so delicious. Early home to beat the darkness. Alleluia!!!!

Happy St. Patrick's Day

Today I heard a real Irish Blessing in Gaelic, no less. Our Pastor is of Irish descent and has studied his native language a bit. He blessed us all after Mass today and it sounded like so much gibberish, not knowing Gaelic, but a blessing, none the less.

At the local Steak House, the menu today, and yesteday, was corned beef and cabbage. I had fish yesterday and did not want to face the crowd that was probably at the Capri for the entertainment tonight. I did see Doc having his at the bar yesterday as I checked out, and it did smell delicious. One man band was to be the entertainment tonight and it is always very lively. I was there a few years back when he played and the joint jumped.

Have a great St. Patrick's Day and I wish you many blessings, Irish or not.

Wild Hogs

Spent time at the movies today with two friends, Wanda and Diane. After shopping at JCP we caught the 2:30 matinee. Laugh!! I thought I would bust a gusset!! It was a crazy movie which I got a big kick from, as did the other girls. Needed that break. Taped the Badger game against Ohio State and will view it at a later time. They did lose to OSU but put up a good fight.
This week will be mostly basketball on the TV. Boys State Tournament starts Thursday as well as the NCAA. I should really get my fill of sports this week.
Since my computer is new, the time change did not affect it. It shows the proper time. Yeh!!
My VCR had to be manually changed, however. I figured it out. Wonder of wonders.
Time for bed.
Mom

Will the snow ever stop!!!!!

The weatherman said we would have "flurries" today. Well, I swept away two inches, at least, before I went bowling. Had a fair night. One good game, two soo-soo games. We only won the first game. One of our opponents bowled three (3) over 200 games!!!! She is so good!! Her average is 210. With some effort, she could become a pro.

The World Day of Prayer from last Friday was re-scheduled to this Friday. There will be a practise on Thursday afternoon for the three of us who are soloists. We are supposed to have much warmer weather by Friday.

Our Lenten Ecumenical Service will be at our church tomorrow night. I plan to attend, but not for the soup supper beforehand, at least, that is my plan now.

I only worked this AM for Mary. I got things caught up, so left early, knowing that snow was coming. Before I came from Beaver Dam, however, I went to WalMart to get a new battery for my watch. When then girl behind the counter saw my watch, she remarked that this was quite special. I told her it was not one of the original Mickey Mouse watches, but one that I treasured because Dad gave it to me since he said he ran a "Mickey Mouse" business. At least, the children referred to his business as such. It did provide us a good living all those years.

Time to get some shut eye. Basketball starts this week in Wisconsin--tournament time, that is.
The college teams will be next week. The summons came for me to serve for a two day trial March 1 and 2. With the weather we have been having and the weather that is predicted for tomorrow and Friday, I have been thinking and praying that something will happen that I do not have to go. Well, my prayers were answered. When I called today to see if I HAD to drive to Portage, I was told that the case was resolved!!! You can be sure I was certainly relieved. Now I can participate in the World Day of Prayer, as scheduled for Friday, without having a stand-in. Maybe I was worried needlessly, but I will still have to serve through March, when notified two weeks in advance, on a jury. C'est la vie.
Bowling was just average for me on Tuesday, but the team lost all points, so we will probably be about in the middle of the twelve teams when the standings are posted this Saturday. Guess you can't win 'em all, can you? We do have fun trying, though.

More Up than down

Last week's bowling was a real downer. Tonight, I thought I really remembered what I was doing. We lost all points last week but won all points this week. Since we were tied with two other teams for first place, I knew we would stay there after tonight. Believe it or not, I bowled a neato 577, with games of 214, 177, and 186. If I had done some math earlier, I could have seen what I needed to break the 600 barrier again. Oh well, we still have a couple months left to bowl.

Stayed home from work yesterday and today because I was sneezing and blowing so much. My nose has finally dried up and I stopped sneezing. Will plan on making up the time at work on Thursday and Friday mornings. The BOSS okayed it.

Getting late. To bed.

Ups and Downs

I wish I could be more consistent when I bowl. Tuesday night was not my best effort. The team lost all the points, too. What a bummer!!!

Cold weather has arrived for certain. They are predicting very low (below zero) temps starting Saturday. Good week to stay inside and throw another log on the fire. (Or sip the brandy!)

Tomorrow the F & M Bank is having an open house to show off their new addition. From what I can see as I enter the place, it is very, very nice. They will have a welcoming at 1 PM and light refreshments will be served. Since I was unable to attend the stockholders dinner (bowling that night) and the tours they gave afterwards, I plan to go around 12:30 (Get that, Peg)and see all I can see.

Sunday is the Super Bowl. I plan to make chili and have snacks available all day. Nana used to like to come over and watch with us and we usually had chili, so we could eat in the living room. Since I listen to WGN all the time, I will be rooting for DA BEARS, the underdogs.

Today word was received that Brett Favre will return to the Packers next season. I think if he throws 5 more TD passes, he will break a record. Sixteen seasons has got to be some sort of record, also.

Getting late. Lots has happened since January 5. One thing was a weekend trip to Fond du Lac to bowl in the WWBA tournament. We bowled 9 games, three on Saturday and six on Sunday. For an "elderly" bowler, I think I did OK for myself. The average of all nine games was 153. Since then, I have had some very good bowling in league. Did a 496 when we returned from State and had a 500 series this past Tuesday. If I keep that up, I will soon be back to my old form and better average of 160 or so. Right now, I'm pushing 150.

Still waiting for the roofers. We have had too much snow for them to contend with lately. It will get done when it gets done.

My volunteering continues and it keeps me on the go. Today it will be just the afternoon session of Bingo at the Care Center. After that I have been asked to "Wave the Fish" at the St. Jerome Fish Fry dinner from 4:30 to 7:30. I should really be hungry after that!!! Will probably bring my fish dinner home to sit down and enjoy.

The Australian Open has kept me glued to the TV at times. It will be interesting tonight to see if Serena Williams (ranked #81) can play better than Maria Sharapova (ranked #2). She may have made it to #1 now that Amelia Moresmo has been knocked out of the tournament. That comes on at 8:30, so I will not be up all night watching. How I do enjoy watching tennis.

We are due for a cold snap this weekend, but no snow is predicted, except for flurries. Peggy and I will plan to attend the Memorial Service for Dr. Robert Ashley at Ripon College.

More later.
Mom

The Magi Arrive tomorrow

The mailman brought me a package two days ago. It was a hand held Sudoku from Ruth Anne and David. Now I won't have to cut them out of the newspaper, I can just pull out my new toy. Thank you, Ruth Anne and David.

Today there was a call from a BD florist. Would I be at home. Yes, until 2 PM. We will see you before that time. The doorbell rang about noon and there was a tremendous bouquet meeting my eyes. Lovely roses, carnations, tulips, asters, baby's breathe and some greenery. Most beautiful arrangement I have seen in quite some time. Thanks for being so thoughtful, RA & D.

Tomorrow is lining up to be pretty full. I am going to play bridge with my partner Judy Wolfgram against Jim Fritchen and his partner Wayne Purves. They can really play bridge and the last time we played, they really put it to us. We lost by such a hugh score it wasn't funny.

Maybe tomorrow we will fare better.
Late afternoon Mass, then out to dinner at the Capri. So I guess I'll miss the playoff games unless I tape them. I will be cheering for the Eagles over the Giants, however.

NIghty-night.

Mom

Back from Bowling

Just back from the new alleys and did not bowl much more than my average, which is now 144. Lost first two games, won the third, so we only took 2 points of the 7 awarded each night. First game was 5 pins under average, other two were over average. The new alleys are very noisey and I usually come home with a slight headache. This may be my last year if they don't do something to abate the noise.

Tomorrow is Wednesday--Mass at the Care Center in the AM and BINGO there in the PM. Run errands before going out there in the AM. Keeps me out of mischief.

I made a pot of turkey noodle soup yesterday and the house smelled delicious!! Put some of it in the freezer for when (and if) we ever get cold weather. It is difficult to realize that this is winter--the weather has been so very mild. No snow on the ground, either.

Shopped at WalMart today. Bought a new watch band which I put on after bowling, some material to knit an afghan for Annie (purple, of course) and some of the black fuzzy material to knit a boa for myself. I had made one for Mary for Christmas, and I really like it.

Time to close for tonight. I think I have it now and can get back to blogging. After the last entry, there was a trip to California to see Kate, Paul, and Nicki. She took her first real steps while I was there. G0t home before Thanksgiving to await the roofers. I am still waiting. The delay is due to all the rain that we have had in Wisconsin. Advent came and I was able to help the Liturgy Committee decorate both for Advent and Christmas. It was a little each weekend, so when the children's Christmas pageant was over, we could really finish the job. That came after the early Mass on the 24th, since it was still Advent. The Church is beautiful in all the garlands, poinsettias, and gold ribbons. The Manger we used was a very large one, and it had to be placed on the 24th also. All in all, it is a nice feeling to know you had a hand in making things so lovely for the congregation. Christmas this year was most different for me. Peggy came to Mass with me, we came back and had a nice breakfast, opened a few gifts then headed out to the movies.

Did you get that? Movies on Christmas!!!!! Peggy told me that was what people did. It was a first for me, since I usually was in the kitchen getting a turkey dinner ready for everyone. We saw "Charlotte's Web" and I did enjoy it very much. Now I will get the book from the library and read it. The children had it read to them in school by their teachers.

After the movie, we came back, made a steak dinner while Peggy hooked up my new kitchen TV and the two year old DVD player. WE had a most pleasant day. Peggy left to feed the animals so I came up to play with my new computer. The day after Christmas, the Gronholz Family joined me for the day. They came early and filled the house with music of all kinds. Jake on his new guitar and Mary and Stefanie played the piano for me. Mary got a new music book for Christmas and wanted to try it out. We all enjoyed the turkey dinner, especially Jake. He really enjoys my mashed potatoes!!. They left early as Stefanie had a basketball practice and since it was Tuesday, I had bowling. Did okay for a change. Made my average all three games. That was the first this season. Thursday was a work day for me at Mary's office. Trying to get things ready for the year end. Will continue that tomorrow. Went out and played bridge on New Year's Eve with three other widows. They invited me to join them at the Capri, but I had already begun my dinner. They called me when they got home and I went and played. They told me I was a life saver, since their usual 4th had taken sick that day.

So here I am again, beginning a new year like everyone else. It is Nicki's birthday today. She must be celebrating with her family here. Isn't that special!!! Watched the Rose Bowl Parade and the Wisconsin game. Saw parts of the Michigan game as I was putting a jigsaw puzzle together. It is one I received in 2005 that had never been opened. That tells you how busy I have been. I wish all of you a very happy new year. May you all enjoy many blessings from the Lord.

Good night.
Mom

New PC and Blogging Again!!

After a few months of not having a valid (try working) computer, I can now get back to blogging on my brand new fast speed computer. Peggy took me shopping last Saturday, showed me what she thought I needed, and I bought the best there was in my price range. Picked up a new printer, too, which is also a copier and scanner. I have put that to very good use already, and I do like it.

Travel continued in July to the funeral of my oldest brother, Tim, in PA. Stayed a few extra days and enjoyed the pool at Mary Pondo's. It was a very hot spell in July!!! Had lunch with Tim's daughter, Kathy, and visited her home for the first time. Usually, I met her at Tim's when I would visit him. Met her husband, David, who came in very red-faced. He had been working in the hot sun all day. I could see the relief on his face when he hit the air conditioned home.

In August, I went to NC to be with the granddaughters (and grandson) to help celebrate their third birthdays. How they have grown!! Stayed a couple weeks and got back in time to start the bowling season with the team in the brand new alleys.

Back to NC again in October and we all spent a week at Myrtle Beach with Ruth Anne, David and family. Peggy and her friend Mary R. from work, Mary, Scott and Jake joined in the fun. The weather was quite nice and it was pleasant not fighting crowds of people on the beach. Ruth Anne and David rented a golf cart for the week and it really made a big hit. Everyone wanted to drive it, especially Jake, who is not quite old enough to drive. Had a nice lunch with Mary R. and Peggy at Benny Rappa's Italian place on the main drag. The trip to CA in November was short but very sweet. Kate had grown so much since I saw her in July and was doing lots of special things. She had been holding on to tables, sofas, etc., to get around the lounge but finally took her first real steps while I was there. She was so excited and the picture Paul took of her doing it showed her delight. Look at me, I can walk!!! Paul has that picture in his blog.

Now it is December and I am waiting for the weather to break so the roofers can get caught up and come to re-roof my home. They were supposed to come November 28, but the rainy October held them up for two weeks. Maybe they will be here soon. The weather here has been most unusual. Warm temperatures for the last week or two. Today it was in the high 40's, which for December 16th is most unusual. I am not complaining. Think of all the heating fuel we are saving with this wonderful break in the temperature. I have rambled long enough and have brought you up to date, somewhat.

Now that I know a little more about blogging, I may do it more often so the blogs will not be so long and windy.

Note: This would have been published a little sooner, but I was a little gung ho and actually created ANOTHER blog. I think Peggy has it fixed now...and I'll be fine from now on. One can hope.

Back Again

Back to the COZY HOME with the children and grandchildren after a wonderful week at MB. The weather was great with the usual liquid sunshine we had one day. Lots to do in MB, and we did much of it. We all got to the beach, the pools, hot tub, lazy river, and even the computer room at the Tower. Plenty of good eating spots. Did enjoy a special lunch at Benny Rapps's and a fun-filled lunch with six others at Margueritaville. Even got to see the hurricane come and drop its load of margueritas.

Rainy today, but I suppose a day of rest after a day of travel is okay, too. Gives ones body a chance to recover and prepare for the week ahead. Even the opening hymn at Mass today was "Rain Down" which was a new one for me, but very singable. Football games today. Loved the one last night!! Rutgers beat Pitt 20-10 to keep their record clean. Dad must be cheering for all he is worth up there. This is the best Rutgers has done since 1976 when they went 11-0 and did not attend a bowl game!! Imagine that!!

Catching up with all the blogs of the children and now my eyes are getting tired.
Have a great and wonderful day, everyone.

Traveling again

After many attempts to blog, forgetting my password, etc., here I am back at it again. Peggy helped me locate my vital statistics. Thanks, Peggy. Since my first blog, I have been on the go around the area. First a trip to NC to help the twins celebrate their 3rd birthday at the end of August . It was a fun trip and a fun party with the JoJo's circus as t he theme. We all had a great time with the balloons and noise makers. Oh to be three!!! Recently I took a weekend trip to Galena, IL and discovered some very lovely old homes on the home tour and a long visit and tour of the home of U. S. Grant. Learned quite a bit of history that day. Weather was ideal for touring and the city is most unusual with all its hills and history. Then there was the trip to Green Bay to see thhe Packers almost beat the St. Louis Rams. It was a heartbreaker for all the fans as the Packers were on their way to winning one. A fumble in the last minute did them in. Now, here I am again in NC visiting youngest daughter Ruth Anne, husband David, their three beautiful red headed children and spending a week at their time share in Myrtle Beach. Just arrived here this afternoon so am anxious to see the Atlantic Ocean again, having grown up on the East Coast, it is familiar territory. We have been joined by Peggy and her friend, Mary. Tomorrow daughter Mary and her son Jake arrive late. Tuesday, Mary's husband will arrive so it will be almost a family reunion. Son Paul is off to Mexico doing his wedding work. Now that I know who I am and how to get into this blog world, I will try to keep you more up to date with my real world.

Traveling in North Carolina

Oh. Here I am at Ruthie's, celebrating birthdays. The granddaughters turned 3 on the 31st of August. The party was fun. Lots of people, lots of good food, and lots of gifts. The weather here has been rainy one day and clear the others. Sunny today and yesterday. Gettin' plenty of sleep and having fun with the grandchidren.

I went out to lunch one day with Ruth and we shopped and did girly stuff. I even arranged the flowers for the girls' party and pulled kitchen duty on two of the dishes--my Hawaiian baked beans and my favorite broccoli/red onion salad. Life is good.

annegero-bookie

If you can't fight 'em, join 'em. So I did. Here is my first blog to catch up to you kids.
Just arrived at work (hey, Mary) and am typing this first blog. It has been a while since I wrote a real letter to my children, so I suppose this is the best way to keep in touch. This way, I can find out just what is going on in my family without many phone calls. Let's see how it goes.
